World's Cheapest Car Debut on Mar 3
World’s cheapest passenger car is set to make its debut on Indian roads on March 3.
Nano (new in Parsi) is from the stable of Tata Motors and it symbolizes expertise in frugal engineering.
The launch date marks the birth anniversary of Tata Group founder, Jamsetji Tata. However, the details had not yet been firmed up.
Priced at Rs 1 lakh for the standard model, the car with boot in the front and engine in the rear is rolling out from Pantnagar Plant of Tata Motors where the company is manufacturing its pickup and van based on the same platform.
Nano plant is coming up Sanand, near Ahmedabad in Gujarat, where it was shifted last year after a political controversy rocked the plans to set up base near Kolkata.
