SURGICAL STRIKE
1. A conference chaired by PM Nawaz Sharif on national security decided to adopt a two- pronged aggressive policy against India. The speakers expressed disappointment on boycott of the SAARC summit by India. (All papers)
2. Pakistan says India is desperately trying to prove their claim of the surgical strikes across LoC target. A fake interview of SP AJK Ghulam Akbar was aired by an Indian TV channel against which Pakistan has a right to file case. SP Akbar has already denied speaking with anybody on the phone. (Roznama Dunya)
3. MLA J&K Assembly Engineer Abdul Rashid has alleged that the Indian Army sealed an area in Leepa and shot fake video of the surgical strike. Cameras were fixed from different directions and helicopters were also used. The rehearsal lasted for three days Rashid said that his informers told him that the video is ready and India could air it. (Ummat)
4. PM Sharif in his address to the joint parliamentary session raised the Kashmir issue as expected and said rightly that unless India changes its attitude, peace could not be restored in the region. The political leaders should learn from their past mistakes and avoid any irresponsible statement that would lower the importance of defence preparation to face the enemy. INDIA -KASHMIR
1. According to a BBC report, PML (N) member Rana Muhammad Afzal Malik said that ‘What to talk about country’s foreign policy?’ He was part of Pakistan’s delegation that went to France to highlight the Kashmir human rights issue. Till today, Pakistan has not been able to stop Hafiz Syed and his likes. India has created such an impression about Jamaat-ud-Dawa’s Amir, Hafiz Syed that as and when Pakistan delegation approaches any country on the Kashmir issue, that country tells Pakistan’s delegations that India -Pakistan relations are going off the track because of the people like Hafiz Syed. Pakistan needs to remove such obstacles coming in the way of Pakistan and India. Attempts are now underway to declare Pakistan a terror-friendly, militant, rogue country because of such factors. The moot question is what good is Hafiz Syed whom Pakistan is nurturing? Hafiz Syed is such a person who is being talked about everywhere in the world and moves across Pakistan but sadly the Pakistan government still does not see him. Pakistan is not able to realise the harm being caused to Pakistan. Legislators in the parliamentary standing committee on foreign affairs have not demanded any action against Hafiz Syed. Statements made in the standing committee meeting are being distorted and presented in wrong way. However PML (N) members have confirmed that it is because of Hafiz Syed that India gets opportunity to blackmail Pakistan across the world. If Pakistan does not stand to be benefitted anyway then why Pakistan should allow Hafiz Syed to harm Pakistan’s interests with his mere presence in the country. (Sindh Express)
2. Chief of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen and Chairman of Muttahida Jihad Council Syed Salahuddin said it is the duty of Pakistan to help Kashmiris as it is a party to the dispute. The so called surgical strikes is a failed effort of India to hide its crimes and warns that Indian leadership must keep in the mind that when tyranny increases it also becomes a reason of its end. (Jasarat)
3. PML-N Senator Abdul Qayyum said that a demand is raised to take action against JuD Chief Hafiz Saeed due to Indian propaganda and pressure. (Ummat)
4. President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Mohammad Masood Khan said Pakistan has started a diplomatic mission to unveil Indian atrocities in Kashmir on a global level. (K-2)
5. India is making new blunders to hide its frustration on surgical strike row by orchestrating attacks on its military camps and killing its own soldiers. (Nawa-i-Waqt)
AFGHANISTAN
1. Afghanistan is using its soil against Pakistan and is sitting in the lap of India with the US catering its administrative needs. Yet Pakistan government committed Rs. 50 million to Afghanistan at the Brussels Conference. Afghanistan will use this money against Pakistan and it would have been better had the government used this money in improving the condition of government hospitals here. (Nawa-i-Waqt Edit)
2. Pakistan has taken a loan from the World Bank on very tough terms and conditions. But instead of spending the loan amounts to address poverty and unemployment Pakistan has announced an aid of 50 crore dollars for economic betterment in Afghanistan! Nawaz Sharif made this announcement while meeting the NATO military Commander General Powell. Nawaz Sharif said that they want Afghanistan’s economic betterment and announced aid of 50 crore dollars which will be apart from earlier aid of 50 crore dollars. (Ibrat)
ARMY/SECURITY FORCES
1. The Director General of ISPR Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa said that no hide outs or bases of terrorists are left in Pakistan. The operation against the Taliban and other armed groups was started after the peace negotiations with them had failed in 2014. 35,000 extremists have been killed till date, 992 bases have been destroyed. This operation martyred 546 soldiers of Pakistan’s security forces and 2285 were injured. Military Courts awarded death sentences to 107 terrorists of which 12 have been hanged after completing legal procedures. The ISPR Chief gave these facts and figures in an interview to a Chinese news agency. (Daily Intekhab)
2. There was one more secret meeting on the day when the joint parliamentary session took place. There is unanimity on two issues in that secret meeting. DG, ISI Rizwan Akhtar and PM’s National Security Advisor Naseer Khan Janjua will visit all the four provinces and convey the messages to the apex committees and sector commanders of ISI not to interfere in the functioning of law keeping machinery who have been acting against banned organisations. DG, ISI will start his visit to the provinces with Lahore. It was also agreed that PM give orders for logical conclusion of investigations into Pathankot attack and Mumbai serial bomb attacks case be retried in a Rawalpindi anti-terror court. Both these major decisions have been taken following the heated discussions between the DG, ISI and the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif in the secret meeting. (Awami Awaz)
SINDH/KARACHI
1. The Sindh police chief gave a detailed briefing to the Sindh CM on the weapons that were seized in Karachi. CM directed him to set up a joint investigation team to look into the matter. Meanwhile, it is also learnt that decision has been taken to make MQM Pakistan and London, a part of the investigation. (Ibrat)
2. The Sindh CM announced Rs. 50 lakh reward for the police and Rangers for seizing record cache of arms during raids at MQM headquarters and in its neighbourhood. The targeted operations against miscreants will continue. (Awami Awaz)
3. The heavy arms that were seized in Karachi were to be used to create sectarian violence during 9 and 10th Moharram. There can be many more weapons buried somewhere but no one digs them up. The country as such is always under thick clouds of sectarian militancy, but come Moharram, there are always threats of militant attacks. Hence, the Sindh government should ensure fool proof security and save Sindh and Karachi from any major suicide or terror attack. There should be a plan on how to cleanse Karachi of its illicit arms so that peace prevails here but the moot question is who will bell the cat? (Kawish)
4. Security agencies notably the Rangers have reduced crime rate in Karachi by 70%. And they deserve to be appreciated for the latest seizure of a heavy weapon consignment; these weapons were found in a MQM stronghold. A transparent investigation about recovery of weapons should be conducted. (Khabrain Edit)
POLITICAL SCENE
1. The Prime Minister’s Office has strongly contradicted news of alleged differences between political and military leadership during National Security Committee meeting. It said that the script of heated arguments between the Director General ISI and the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif is not only imaginary but also misleading and against all the facts. Spokesperson of the PM’s Office said that this report is a mixture of fiction and half-truth, which has been reported without any context. (Daily Intekhab)
2. The joint sitting of the Parliament turned into a slugfest between ruling PML (N) and the opposition party, PPP. Both sides used foul language, made wild allegations and dubbed each other as traitors. Jamaat-e-Islami Chief Siraj-ul-Haq and Pakhtunkhwah Milli Awami Party Chief Mehmood Khan Achakzai tried to bring the situation to normal. (Daily Intekhab)
3. Out of 446 members of both Houses Parliament and Senate only 68 members were present on the second day of the special joint session. This reflects a lack of interest on the part of members. The National Assembly has a strength of 342 members while the Senate is a 104 member house. (Kawish)
4. Maula Bux Chandiyo, advisor to Sindh CM says attitudes of PML-N ministers made mockery of joint session and very purpose of joint session was defeated. He added that the Kashmir cause has suffered heavily because of personal differences amongst PML –N leaders and unnecessary and baseless criticism of opposition parties. The PML-N ministers are perhaps not aware of the spirit of democracy and are heavily anti-PPP. It is evident from the fact that the PML-N leaders don’t miss any chance to hit at the PPP party and the Bhutto family. These ministers show a lot of disrespect and make noise in House but when corruption charges in the Panama case are raised, they turn quiet. (Ibrat)
