AFGHANISTAN
 Highly places sources close to the Northern alliance in Afghanistan have revealed that former Chief of the Northern Alliance and eminent jihadi against USSR, Ahmad Shah Masood, was killed at the behest of CIA because Masood had refused to help the US plans to divide Afghanistan. There is a step up in the visit of American officials to Kabul because of the successful ‘Omari Operation’ by Taliban which had distressed the US. According to sources, Americans are thinking that President Ghani is playing in the hands of Pakistan. (Ummat)
UNITED STATES
 Commenting on new twists in F-16 deal, Daily Pak has criticised the American Congress for stalling the sale of the jets to Pakistan and for insisting on payment for the deal. Pakistan has been facing music from terrorists because of the American policies. Hence it is binding on the US to support Pakistan in every way possible to overcome this monster. Indian lobby is working against Pakistan’s interests and it is necessary that the US should not ignore Pakistan for the sake of friendship with India. It is good that the US accepted the fact that Pakistan can meet its defence needs from anywhere but at the same time Pak-US relations are of great importance to eradicate terrorism. (Daily Pak Edit)

TERRORISM AND EXTREMISM

He however told the Police that he had not succeed in his plans. He told the interrogators that two other Al Qaeda accomplices, Zen Ansari and Anwar Qamil, were also involved with him in this plot against Asad. (Awami Awaz, Khabrain)

POLITICAL SCENE
 JI Chief Siraj-ul-Haq has appealed to the UN and OIC to stop the capital punishment awarded to Bangladesh JI Chief Maulana Mufti-ur-Rahman Nizami. He has condemned what he called criminal silence over the issue maintained by government of Pakistan. (Jasarat)
 Sunni Tehrik Chief, Sarwat Aijaz Qadri, has said that political parties should be blamed for creating hurdles in peace efforts. He said criminals’ facilitators were working in tandem with the political parties and that instead of making another MQM action should be taken against criminals’ facilitators. (Khabrain)
 Naseem Bukhari, in his article, states that lack of unity amongst the opposition seemed to have made the government realise that there is no threat. This is the reason why the PML (N) leaders continue to make arrogant statements. It however remains to be seen if the government is strong enough to survive or are its days numbered. (Ibrat)
 Vengus (an alias), in her article, states that whatever is happening in Pakistan in the aftermath of Panama Paper leaks, and the way the leaders are issuing arrogant statements should not be a surprise for the people of Pakistan. If anyone believes or under the impression that the Panama papers would not make any big impact in Pakistan would be mistaken; if the government had set up a commission on the first day itself, it would not have landed itself in as much trouble as it is in now. There is no doubt that the establishment is very soft on Nawaz Sharif. It could be attributed to a possible deal between the government and establishment wherein Musharraf was allowed to go abroad and Nawaz Sharif would complete his term as PM. The establishment is not as strict as it should have been on this matter. On his part, the PM has been very arrogant; instead of ordering any investigations, he is working overtime to bury the case. As a result wrong signals are being sent out to the world community that the Pakistan PM instead of appearing before an inquiry commission is trying to set up a commission convenient to him. It looks as if Nawaz Sharif has once again started playing the politics of the1990; instead of re-visiting the1990s, he and his cohorts should close that chapter in Pakistan’s political history. (Ibrat)
 Shaqar Solangi writes in Kawish: it is not PPP that is against the PM and the government on the Panama leaks issue; it is indeed Imran Khan and his party, PTI, who have taken it upon themselves to haul the PM and the government on the coals. PPP is smart enough to hijack this movement in its favour. Talk in political circles is that ANP and Qaumi Watan Party have opposed the PM’s resignation only on PPP’s suggestion and that all this was part of joint strategy made by Zardari, Nawaz Sharif, and Asfandyar Wali. Whatever has been happening so far is according to their strategy. Thus PPP has once again come to PML (N) and Nawaz Sharif’s rescue. It is possible now for the Opposition and the government to work together on finalising the terms of reference for the proposed probe panel. (Kawish)
 Nazir Naji remarks in Roznama Dunya that the opposition has failed to put up a united face on the Panama Leaks inquiry issue. (Roznama Dunya)
 Jang and Khabrain have expressed concern over escalating political crisis over the Panama Papers issue. Both dailies asked the Nawaz government not to politicise the issue. (Jang Edit, Khabrain Edit)

SINDH
 Nawa-i-Waqt has welcomed the Army chief Raheel Sharif taking notice of the death of MQM activist Aftab Ahmad in Rangers’ custody. A wrong must be accepted as a wrong even if done by security forces and hence justice should prevail. (Nawa-i-Waqt Edit)
 Commenting on Thar deaths, Ibrat and Kawish noted that the Senate committee has rejected the briefing given by the Sindh government’s emissaries about conditions in Thar. The Committee has attributed the death of several children in Thar to lack of medical and health facilities but the Sindh government claimed that children were dying because of young-age marriages (resulting in pre-mature child bearing) and lack of education in the Thar region. Though Thar has been under a state of famine for a while now, the Sindh government initially refused to even acknowledge that children were dying in Thar because of the famine. The edits advice the Sindh government and PPP leadership accept their failures and ensure that no more children die in Thar. (Ibrat Edit, Kawish Edit)
GILGIT-BALTISTAN/POK
 Chairman Awami Action Committee, Justice (Retd.) Jafar Shah has said that if Gilgit-Baltistan is a disputed area then the Federal government cannot levy any taxes as per the Constitution of Pakistan. He added that if the people of J&K can sit in the Indian Parliament then why is it not possible for the people of Gilgit-Baltistan to be represented in Pakistan parliament. He said that employing persons from Pakistan on higher position in G-B while ignoring local talent is an injustice to the people. Such acts would promote insecurity and perpetuate a sense of humiliation which would provoke the people of the region to retaliate. (Baad-e-Shimal)
 Daily K2 has disputed the claim of Senior Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, Akbar Taban that the region is getting the best of facilities that are not even enjoyed by some other parts of Pakistan and that it will get a very big constitutional setup after elections in AJK. The daily said Taban-Speak is opposite to the sentiments of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. It is evident that the senior minister is not even aware of the problems of the people. This is a trick to divert attention of the public from actual demand of constitutional rights. (Daily K2 Edit)
