BANGLADESH
1.Pakistani electronic media is wrong to say that JI had opposed the creation of Pakistan. Many JI leaders of Bangladesh have sacrificed their lives to spread the ideology of Pakistan, Islam, and the two-nation theory. Motiur Rahman Nizami is one such brave leaders. Nizami is also punished because he had supported the Pakistan Army and had waged a fight against Indian agents at the time of Dhaka’s fall. (Jasarat Edit)
2.Motiur Rahman Nizami was the fourth JI Bangladeshi leader who had been targeted by pro-India ‘killer lady’ PM Sheikh Hasina. His last words were that: “I am old and nothing is more desirable than martyrdom at this age.” Pakistani JI Chief, Siraj-ul-Haq, said Bangladesh had appeased India by hanging Maulana Nizami, and that the hanging of Motiur Rahman was the murder of humanity and this would strengthen the road for Islamic revolution in South Asia. Jamiat-e-Talaba chief Maryam Mansoor stated that the pro-India government of Sheikh Hasina should stop punishing JI leaders for their love of Pakistan. He demanded that the government of Pakistan should revisit its policy on Bangladesh. (Jasarat)
AFGHANISTAN

2.Afghan government is seeking support from Russia and India for negotiations with Taliban. Deputy Foreign Minister, Hikmat Khalil Karzai, said that the Rabta group made up of Pakistan, Afghanistan, China, and America had tried but Taliban were not ready for negotiations. Hence Russia, India or Iran can become part of Rabta group for negotiations with Taliban. Hikmat also alleged that the hideout of Taliban leadership was in Pakistan and it was responsibility of Pakistan to utilize pressure to bring Taliban on the negotiation table. (Jasarat)
IRAN
1.Navid Masood Hashmi writes: Iranian Ambassador Mehdi Honardoost was accusing Pakistani journalists for levelling accusations on Iran for helping anti-Pakistan forces. The Ambassador should know that revelations were not made by journalists but those who had used Iranian land to spread terrorism in Pakistan. In fact, Pakistan has a soft policy towards Iran whereas Iran has a list of mischievous acts against Pakistan. What confidential information Iran had received from Uzair Baloch and what Baloch had got in exchange is still a mystery. (Al Qalam Weekly, 6-12 May)
INDIA
1.Thor leaders have alleged that KPK Minister, Abdul Sattar, was distributing money obtained from India among the people of Harban of Kohistan to create obstacles in the construction of the Diamer-Bhasha Dam. They also demanded Pakistan Army’s intervention to resolve the border dispute between Kohistan and Gilgit-Baltistan. The entire stretch from Thor to Bhasha belongs to the people of Thor. The residents of Harban are creating ruckus on Karakoram Highway. (Daily K2, Baad-e-Shimal)
2.Jang edit cautions that Indian Secret agency is conspiring to paralyse Pakistan’s communication system. It refers to a blast in Tandojam near the railway line and to the reported disclosure by an arrested Indian Saddam of a conspiracy to carry out Mumbai-like attacks. (Jang Edit)
TERRORISM & EXTREMISM
1.Former PM Gilani’s son has at last been freed from Afghanistan-based kidnappers, three years after his abduction. Pakistan is passing through very tough times. Security officials will have to look into who was behind all this. There are reports that a lot of ransom has also been paid to ensure his release. Similar set of events took place a few months back when Salman Taseer’s son was freed; initially it was claimed that Taseer was freed after an operation in Balochistan’s Kuchlak area; however the reports were subsequently denied. (Awami Awaz Edit, Ibrat Edit)
2.Ausaf edit is relieved that Gilani’s son is freed but pops up several questions. What are the aims and objectives of kidnappers? Was any ransom was demanded by the kidnappers? If so was the money paid? (Awami Awaz Edit, Ibrat Edit, Ausaf Edit)
3.Zarar Pirzada, writes that if sons of ex-PM (Gilani) and Governor (Taseer) had remained abducted for so many years, then who would listen to the pleas of the common man. The media is tight-lipped on how Taseer and Gilani were freed and who had played a role in their release. In this regard Pirzada recalls a statement made by Gilani sometime back, where he said that if the ISI wanted, then his son could be freed. (Awami Awaz)

POLITICAL SCENE

2.Munir Ahmed Baloch lashed out at Nawaz Sharif for preferring to visit London instead of going to Charsadda University to share grief of parents who had lost their children in a TTP attack. Though he did not find time to go to Charsadda, the PM found time to visit Mansehra to inaugurate a project for the fourth time, to appease people in view of Panama leaks issue. (Roznama Dunya)
3.Columnist Nazir Naji alleges that PML (N) activists misbehaved with female participants at PTI rallies. (Roznama Dunya)
4.M.B. Soomro writes: at one point PTI used to level similar charges against PPP, as the one it was levelling against PML (N), but now PTI and PPP have joined hands against PML (N). He states that perhaps it was because of PPP’s changing posture that the government too had started reviewing the old files and cases of PPP leaders; in other words, the government and the opposition have started confronting each other. Soomro further writes that there was a need for a multi-pronged enquiry in the Panama leaks issue, but neither the opposition was demanding and nor was the government initiating such measures, out of fear that it could lead to the opening of more Pandora’s boxes. (Kawish)
5. As more and more disclosures are coming out on the Panama Papers, the authorities, instead of showing commensurate seriousness in dealing with the issue, are showing an increasing lack of seriousness to deal with the matter. The government is now calling all this to be a part of a conspiracy against them. The country is deeply in debts, which will take years and generations to pay off. Yet, the political class, business community, and people from other walks of life are parking their funds abroad to save taxes. This is a shameful act. Even the PM of the country who solicits investments from abroad is not prepared to bring back his family’s funds from abroad to invest in Pakistan. As long as people do not start questioning these leaders, the country will continue be robbed and looted. (Ibrat Edit, Roznama Dunya Edit, Nawa-i-Waqt Edit, Jang Edit)
6.Kawish states that everybody knows that the PM’s name does not figure directly in the Panama Papers. So the investigation must begin from his family and not from the PM himself. The only demand from the opposition is that the PM must present himself before the Parliament and that is not such a demand that the PM cannot accede to. (Kawish)
7.Editorial in Khabrain says opposition and the government should take notice of people’s concerns and address them by making a common cause for bringing the culprits to book. (Khabrain)\\
8.Nawa-i-Waqt Editorial charges the opposition with its stubbornness on the Panama leaks issue. It criticises the opposition resolve to not attend Parliament unless PM Sharif showed up and gave clarification on the issue. Such actions are akin to degrading parliament; it is not possible to get rid of corruption unless Parliament is made a powerful platform. (Nawa-i-Waqt)
