UNITED STATES
1. Kawish has editorially commented the visit of the US delegation led by Senator John McCain. It described the visit as an attempt to reinvigorate the bilateral reactions which have been in the doldrums for a while. Pakistan has not only become the ‘fuel’ in the US war on terror but also suffered heavy damages economically. It is not an easy task to compensate these economic losses, which are huge indeed. Solutions are often found if the US shares these losses but the US now has withheld the aid flowing into Pakistan. The visiting delegation has assured that they will take up the matter with the US Congress. As an old ally, it is duty of the US to release these grants to Pakistan. If Pakistan becomes a victim of financial instability then the blame will rest with the US. (Kawish Edit)
2. Khabrain and Ausaf have described American Senator John McCain’s visit to as significant. The Pak-US relationship is based on give and take principle and the outcome of the current visit of the US delegation will be visible in the near future. It is a matter of satisfaction that the US supports Pakistan on the border management issue. The US should intervene in resolving the Kashmir issue, and also support Pakistan in the UN over Kashmir. On its part, the government, instead of depending on the US aid and compromising national security, must evolve an independent policy covering trade, diplomacy, and economic relations. (Khabrain Edit, Ausaf Edit)
3. Commenting on the US delegation’s visit, analyst Arbab Nek Mohammad writes: The success or failure of McCain’s visit will be known only after Nawaz Sharif’s return to Pakistan and only after he is seen taking further measures for the improvement of ties with Afghanistan and India. John McCain has showered praises on Pakistan and promised logistic support fund, F 16 planes and much more when the new administration takes over after Obama. If Pindi i.e. the Army establishment wants, they can derail the four-country talks (Afghanistan-US-China-Pakistan) but if they want to co-operate then the Afghan militants should surrender and give up the arms. Noteworthy is Sartaj Aziz’s statement that “intensified operations evoke strong reactions from militants”. Such statements bring out the fact that those behind these operations have their own agenda (hinting towards the Army). Fazal-ul-Rehman, Siraj-ul-Haq and Mahmood Khan Achakzai are together in their strong show of solidarity with the Afghan refugees. No matter what the KP Chief Minister and others in the KP government say, it looks like Pakistan will never get rid of the Afghan refugees in the near future. (Kawish)
AFGHANISTAN
1. Daily K2 editorially discussed the need for proper management at Torkham border, saying it is crucial to control the terrorist influx. India is provoking Afghanistan to create trouble on border management issue because India fears that its agents will not be able to cross the border and enter Pakistan. The US can play a vital role in this matter by convincing both India and Afghanistan against messing up the issue. (Daily K2 Edit)
INDIA
1. Jasarat has editorially blamed Indian media for linking the recent Dhaka terrorist attack with Pakistan and termed it as a conspiracy against Pakistan. The Indian newspaper, Economic Times, even published an article in which it quoted the Bangladeshi Information Minister saying that 800 youth had returned home after attending terrorist camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan. The Bangladesh Interior Ministry has however clearly stated that there was no presence of Al Qaeda or Daesh in Bangladesh. It also stated that the militant youth belonged to the Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh. The statement also said Israel is involved in terrorism inside Bangladesh. However, the Indian press didn’t refer to this statement of Bangladeshi Interior Ministry issued a few days ago (Jasarat Edit)
TERRORISM & EXTREMISM
1.Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Liaqat Baloch has instructed Al Khidmat to speed up its welfare activities in the flood affected Chitral. (Jasarat)
POLITICAL SCENE
1. PTI Chairman Imran Khan, addressing an iftar dinner, criticized Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif for meeting steel tycoon Jindal in India but not the Hurriyat leaders. He added that the Nawaz – Modi friendship has harmed the Kashmir cause. (Ausaf, Daily Dharti)
2. PPP leader Maula Bux Chandiyo says Nawaz Sharif cannot escape Panama Papers’ curse. Interior Minister, Nisar Ali Khan can criticise the PPP and the Sindh government as much as he wants but there is no question of giving up the demands for a probe on Panama leaks. (Awami Awaz)
3. PPP has announced that massive protests will be staged after Eid against power cuts in Sindh. The 18 to 22 hour power cuts have made life miserable and affected businesses in cities and interiors alike. (Kawish)
4. Ibrat editorially commented on the rain havoc in Chitral which had claimed over 30 lives and caused colossal loss of property. The Army is deployed there for the rescue and relief works. The devastation in Chitral is a big wake up call for the rest of the country since the Met department has forecast heavy rains for a month or two. The Federal and the provincial governments should take advance action to minimise hardships to people. (Ibrat Edit)
