  1. Good sense has prevailed with the PTI and the party has decided to end its boycott of Parliament. Dissent is beauty of the democracy and parliament is the appropriate forum to resolve disputes. The government too should have respect for opposition’s dissenting views. (Kawish Edit)
  2. World Bank has asked India and Pakistan to resolve the water discord amicably as provided under the Indus Water Treaty. India has been violating the IWT by constructing dams on Pakistani rivers and diverting the flow of Pakistan’s waters. It is necessary that Pakistan should work overtime to put forth its position effectively vis-a-vis India. Pakistan should take every possible action to stop India’s water terrorism.   3. Iran has floated the proposal of setting up a new Islamic Bloc to fight terrorism. Turkey and Pakistan should take interest in this cause since Iran plan covers Saudi Arabia also. (Nawa-i-Waqt Edit)
  4. The new Army Chief has announced the combing operations. He also reshuffled top deck of the forces. Due to Rangers’ effective attempts peace has been established in Karachi. India continues its shelling on the LoC and the Indian Home Minister recently threatened Pakistan. So the Army has a clear task on the border and inside the country. Construction of posts on the Afghan border should be speeded up. Peace and stability can be brought in FATA after the return of the tribal people and with betterment of the social infrastructure.   5. Former Portuguese Prime Minister Antonio Guterres took oath as the new Secretary General of the United Nations. He will play a role in the resolution of the Kashmir issue as per the UN resolutions. He is also expected to find solution for the Palestine issue. (Ausaf Edit)
  6. Defence Minister and Interior Minister have rebuffed the Indian Home Minister who has held out a warning to Pakistan are hailed. What Indian Minister is trying to say is that even after 70 years, Indian extremists have failed to overcome their disappointment and distress at the creation of Pakistan. What is more they are linking freedom movement in Kashmir to terrorism. India has failed to fight terrorism in its own states. What kind of help India can provide to Pakistan, which has succeeded in abolishing terrorism from FATA and Balochistan. Pakistan has also succeeded in controlling terrorism carried out via Afghanistan. Pakistan has always offered to resolve all the issues including Kashmir issue with India through amicable talks. India always deviates from the UN’s resolution and now it is creating war like situation by violating LoC. (Jang Edit)
  7. World Bank has announced a pause on its own response to the rival requests filed by India and Pakistan under the Indus Water Treaty (IWT). The bank is advising them to find a way out through mutually agreed mechanism by end of January. At the same time it has warned if any solution is found deviating from the IWT parameters, the treaty stands void. This dispute can be resolved in a better way if only Pakistan asserts its rights. More than the upstream region from where the river originates, it is the regions at lower stream that have more rights over water. This is the global practice. It is Pakistan that has first right on all rivers, including Indus and Pakistan must get those rights in toto. (Ibrat Edit)

Sources say RAW has planned to kill ‘Zikri’ people in Balochistan to spread sectarian fire; its agents could also target nationalist leaders in Balochistan to instigate Baloch separatists for further operations. It has also been revealed that a trained group was shifted to Balochistan from Afghanistan which will carry out destructive activities in Balochistan. Sensitive agencies have prepared a strategy to foil RAW plans and to protect Zikri community. (Jasarat)
  9. JuD Chief Hafiz Saeed alleges that India is using chemical weapons in Kashmir and states that Pakistan should raise the issue in global fora. A Kashmir conference would be held on Dec 15 at Muzaffarabad. Religious and political leaders have been invited. (Ummat, Nawa-i-Waqt, Jasarat)
  10. New ISI Chief Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar thinks that stability in Afghanistan is necessary for security in Pakistan. He also for stopping Indian influence in Afghanistan and this thinking of him was revealed through his research papers. One such research paper was on the topic ‘Afghanistan, Alternate Future and its Effects’, in which he claimed that Pakistan’s past, present and future are connected with Afghanistan. India can use Afghanistan for proxy but Pakistan will monitor the situation in Afghanistan and can take steps to stop it. During his deployment in Karachi his functioning was untraditional; he was found openly criticizing the local administration. He was the Director ISI’s Counter terrorism department which covers Balochistan, Waziristan and Karachi. Civil and military leadership finds that active militant groups of these areas are connected with Indian agency RAW. (Ummat)
  11. World Bank (WB) has stayed the appointment of a neutral expert for the Indus Water Treaty (IWT). It has asked both, India and Pakistan, to resolve water disputes by January or else this treaty will be made non-functional. The WB also took note of India’s construction of controversial Kishanganga Dam and Ratle Dam on the Indus. In it’s the WB also said that if India and Pakistan will resolve water issue in isolation of water treaty then treaty will be reduced to being non-operative. Hence, in its first phase, WB has stayed action for the time being on India’s application for appointment of a neutral expert to arbitrate on water row. The WB Chief hoped that both the countries will work out some mutually discussed mechanism by end of January to resolve the water issue. (Jinnah, Sindh Express)
  12. Karachi Corps Commander Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar visited Rangers Head Quarters on Monday. He was briefed on security arrangements on the occasion of Eid Milad Nabi. (Jang)

  14. Shah Mahmood Quereshi, Vice Chairman of PTI said that there is some weight in Bilawal’s four demands. There are two groups within PPP on these four demands. One wants to come on the roads in pursuit of the four demands and other factions want to have a deal with the government. Aitzaz Ahsan, Sherry Rehman, Qamar Zaman Kaira and few others want to protest against the government but former PM Gilani and his camp consisting Dr. Asim and few others want to strike a deal on NAB cases.   15. PM Nawaz Sharif has convened a meeting of his cabinet ministers on Dec 16th to review prevailing political and economic situation in the country. He will also take everyone into confidence on issues related to ‘Common Interest Council’ and decisions of the ECC. (Ausaf)
  16. Punjab Government has decided to crack down on the banned organizations in order to keep law and order under control in the province. (Jang)
  17. Taking part in Geo News program, senior analyst Mazhar Abbas said that Bilawal Zardari’s proposed protest program has the sanction of Asif Zardari. Bilawal does not act without his father’s nod. PPP is going to challenge PTI and not PML (N) in Punjab. (Jang)
  18. Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami party Chairman Mehmood Khan Achakzai said that no decision should be taken on the future of FATA without consulting the local people. His community is being conspired against. If we are suppressed, then lakhs of people will come out to protest. (Daily Intekhab)
  19. Arif Bahar in his column has described the World Human Rights Day observed on 8th December as a fraud of Western countries. The West only cares about human rights violation when it affects their interests. Its conscience is not touched by human rights violations in Kashmir, Palestine, Iraq, Syria and Burma. (Jasarat)
  20. The Counter Terrorism Police has called for a strict watch on 90 more madrasas in Sindh in saying they are connected with banned organisations. Sources say if the recommendations are accepted these suspected madrasas will be accountable to the government like all those whose names are included in IVth Schedule under Anti-Terror Act. It will help keep an eye on their funding sources as also the religious education they are imparting. (Sindh Express)

  22. Fazal-ur-Rehman, JUI (F) Chief commented that the recent bill passed by the Sindh government banning minorities from ‘embracing Islam is not acceptable. All the talk of forced conversions is absurd. (Sindh Express)
  23. 11 militants including an ISIS commander have been killed in the US drone attack in Nangarhar province of Afghanistan. (Jang)
  24. Counter Terrorism Department has arrested four TTP terrorists from Multan. And seized two suicide jackets and weapons. The terrorists were planning to target important government institutions. CTD also arrested three ISIS terrorists from Sialkot. (Jang)
  25. Sindh’s Apex Committee was informed that the Rangers have carried out combing operations against networks recruiting people for Syria and Iraq. Important people working for TTP, Al-Qaida and other banned outfits have been arrested. (Jang)
  26. Chief Minister of Balochistan Nawab Sanaullah Zehri met Army Chief General Qamar Bajwa. Commander Southern Command Lieutenant General Aamir Riyaz was also present at the meeting which discussed law and order situation in Balochistan, security of the CPEC project and other related issues. General Bajwa assured the CM of the full cooperation of the armed forces in improving the situation. Chief Minister met Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat, Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshall Sohail Aman, Naval Chief Admiral Zakaullah and Chinese Ambassador Sun Weidong separately, wherein they discussed CPEC project and related security issues.   27. General Zubair Mahmood Hayat announced formation of a special force for security of Gwadar Port and Economic Highway. Gwadar Port’s special force has been named TF88.   28. Frontier Corps and sensitive agencies have arrested five persons on suspicion that they belong to banned outfits in Balochistan. They have seized weapons and anti-state literature from them. (Urdupoint)
  29. The office of Balochistan National Party was attacked with bombs. Eight Party workers were injured, two of them seriously. Motor cycle borne attackers threw bombs at the Party office and escaped. Security agencies have surrounded the area and investigations have begun. . (Daily Intekhab)
