Multiple blasts, gun fire rock Peshawar on Apr 5
Peshawar on Monday, April 5, afternoon was again rocked by multiple blasts and gunfire, this time close to the American consulate, and highly sensitive military installations, hours after 25 people were killed when a suicide bomber struck at a meeting organised by the Awami National Party in Timergara about 80 km from Peshawar in Lower Dir district.
Three blasts occurred within 20 minutes in Saddar area, located close to the cantonment. Several persons were injured in the explosions. The first blast went off at about 1.15 pm near the building of the State Life Insurance Corporation. The second and third blasts occurred in an area near the US consulate.
The ANP meeting was called to celebrate the renaming of NWFP, as Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
Pakistani television networks showed footage of a giant cloud dust and debris rising from the Saddar area in Peshawar shortly the blasts.
