The fourth foreign minister’s meeting of the neighboring countries of Afghanistan will be held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan on April 13, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported on Friday.

According to TASS, the participants of this meeting will discuss the fight against narcotics production and the activities of terrorist groups in Afghanistan.

“The fourth ministerial conference of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries (with the participation of Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan) is scheduled for April 13 in Samarkand (Uzbekistan). The Russian delegation will be led by Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov,” the report reads.

“A meeting discussing Afghanistan at the level of foreign ministers of neighboring countries might be a positive move in the direction of interaction with the current government of Afghanistan,” said Mohammad Zalmay Afghanyar, a political analyst.

However, the Islamic Emirate said that it wants good relations with all countries and no country should be afraid of Afghanistan.

“Afghanistan is secure and stable, and this stability is advantageous to the entire region and countries. They should cooperate diplomatically and economically with Afghanistan to ensure long-term peace and security. Sadly, some nations view Afghanistan as a threat, they pretend that Afghanistan is not safe or is a threat to countries. This viewpoint should be dropped,” said Zabiullah Mujahid, the Islamic Emirate’s spokesperson.

Analysts said that holding such meetings in the current situation is beneficial for the country.

“International meetings, especially of regional countries, regarding the situation in Afghanistan, are very important for stability and international interaction and confidence-building, especially in the current situation,” said Sayed Moqadam Amin, a political analyst.

“The people of Afghanistan saw the holding of several meetings with neighbors and other nations regarding Afghanistan; sadly, none of the decisions and resolutions from these meetings were put into action and remained on paper, and it did not change the lives of the people of Afghanistan,” said Najib Rahman Shamal, a political analyst.

Representatives of Uzbekistan, China, Iran, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan will discuss the situation in Afghanistan on the first day of the meeting of foreign ministers of Afghanistan’s neighbors.
