Explosion in Kunduz Province Killed 33, Wounded Dozens of Worshipers

A bomb blast that targeted worshipers in a mosque in the northern Kunduz province has killed 33 and wounded 43 more so far.

The Chief spokesperson of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in a Twitter post condemned that incident and confirmed the casualties.

“An explosion in a mosque in Imam Sahib district of Kunduz province martyred 33 and wounded 43 civilians among them, children. We condemn the incident, ask for the wounded speedy recovery, the martyred Janna, and deliver condolences to the families of the victims.” Reads the Twitter post.

The explosion took place on Friday afternoon at a time when religious students of the nearby religious schools (madrasa) and local residents were busy praying.

The mosque belongs to Sunni Muslims.

Based on unconfirmed reports, the number of wounded has been 50.

No group has claimed responsibility for the blast nor the nature of the blast disclosed.

It comes a day after a bomb explosion in a mosque in the northern Mazar-e-Sharif city killed 34 and wounded more than 80 more worshipers.
