B’desh: Top terrorist killed in alleged gunfight with RAB

A man was killed in what the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) called a gunfight with their members in Cox’s Bazar pourashava (municipality) area early Saturday, reports news agency UNB.

The deceased was identified as Ashraf Ali alias Ashu Ali, 25. He was wanted in 12 cases including of murder, RAB said.

Wing Commander of RAB-15 Ajim Ahmed said Ashu Ali was shot dead during a gunfight with RAB members in Shahittika Palli area of city’s ward no. 6.

Ashu Ali killed at least five people in the last three years, RAB sources claimed.

Locals said he and his gang Ashu Bahini established a reign of terror at Shahittika Palli and Samiti Bazar area was dominated.

In 2019, when leader of the gang Amir Khan was killed in a gunfight with police, Ashu Ali became the head of the gang, they said.

‘Spiritual leader’ of Ansar Al Islam placed on 3-day remand

A Dhaka court has granted a three-day remand for Mahmud Hasan alias Gunbi,, spiritual leader of banned militant outfit ‘Ansar Al Islam’, for his alleged involvement with terrorism.

The court of Dhaka Metropolitan magistrate Moinul Islam passed the remand order on Saturday following a hearing. Earlier, police sought a 10-day remand for him in a case filed under anti-terrorism act with Shah Ali police station in the capital city.

But the court granted police a three-day remand to interrogate Mahmud Hasan in custody.
