UNITED STATES
1. Arif Bahar writes: American defence experts, media, and political personalities are now looking at Pakistan as if it is an enemy. US’ attitude changed after the end of the cold war and it became obvious after 9/11. Since the invasion of Afghanistan by allied forces, the US, India, and other forces were trying to establish peace in Afghanistan but have not succeeded. Allied forces have also tried to destabilise Pakistan, but Pakistan has struggled and defeated the terrorists. (Jasarat)
2.Jang editorially lauded, Sartaj Aziz’s (Advisor to PM on foreign affairs) statement that if the US will not provide F-16s then Pakistan will find other sources to procure the same. This statement asserts Pakistan’s self-respect. The US is refusing F-16s to Pakistan to please India and to establish Indian supremacy in the region. Pakistan should clearly inform US that Pakistan is not willing to make any compromise on its defence and remain under Indian diktat. (Jang Edit)
AFGHANISTAN
1. Munir Ahmed Baloch writes that Abdullah Abdullah’s close associate and advisor, Engineer Khan Mohammed has been arrested for his alleged association with ISIS. Engineer Khan had close relations with Hamid Karzai and his group controlled all terrorist activities in Pakistan and China’s Xinjiang province. Baloch writes that there were a large number of Uighur Muslims present in India and that this was not possible without Modi’s approval. According to Baloch, this assumption was supported by the fact that the Indian Army Chief had warned China and around the same time the separatists’ attacks in Xinjiang had increased. Baloch suspects that India was using the same group in Afghanistan against Pakistan, because sabotaging the CPEC project had become Modi government’s topmost priority. (Roznama Dunya)
INDIA
1.Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has criticised the Indian government’s decision to build separate colonies for Pandits in Kashmir. He stated that Kashmiris would not allow the Indian government to divide the people of Kashmir in the name of religion. Geelani said that both Kashmiri Muslims and Pandits would foil this dangerous project and that Pandits were part of the Kashmiri society, and nobody was against their return to their homes. (Jasarat)
2.Indian Government was planning to have a separate township for Hindu Pandits in Kashmir to mutilate the Muslim identity of the state. (Daily Pak)
3. In view of threat of RAW and NDS activities in Islamabad, security has been put on high alert. (Jang, Roznama Dunya)
4. Ummat editorial says India has changed its policy on Hurriyat leaders meeting Pakistani representatives. India now says that Hurriyat leaders are Indian citizens who have the freedom to meet representatives of any country. However, in the negotiations between India and Pakistan, Hurriyat still has no role to play. Meanwhile, Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has said that Kashmir is not a border dispute, but is a humanitarian issue. The Kashmir dispute should be resolved on the basis of UN resolutions and as per the aspirations of the people of Kashmir. The statement of Indian leaders that Kashmir is an inseparable part of India won’t help the peaceful resolution of the dispute. (Ummat Edit)
ARMY
1. Ibrat editorial was on Army Spokesman’s announcement that operations are being widened and combing operations will now also be undertaken across the country against facilitators of militancy. Militancy appears to be under control but reports keep coming in about militants conspiring or plotting attacks. Anti-militancy drive should not just be the task of the Army, but every citizen should be involved. People should play a role in the fight against militancy, because as long as the Police and the people do not have a role in this fight, the militancy curse cannot be eradicated. It is essential for the government to ensure that peoples’ emotions are not exploited in the name of religion. Let us hope that the combing phase is the last phase of the operation against militancy. (Ibrat Edit)
2. Roznama Dunya has welcomed the Army chief’s decision to sack officers who have committed wrong doings. Government departments should follow the Army Chief’s example and hold the officers accountable for their wrongs. (Roznama Dunya Edit)

2. Jaiprakash Morani writes: 800 more Pakistanis are expected to feature in the next list of Panama leaks. He states that in light of the extensive media coverage on this issue, action should be taken not just against the ones who were featured on the Panama leaks lists, but against all those who were illicitly amassing massive wealth and keeping it abroad. (Ibrat)
3. Ibrahim Kumbhar writes: PPP has done a good thing this time by bringing all the opposition parties on one platform. According to observers, the current target in the Panama case is not the PM but the political democratic system; these sections further believe that though democracy has not been very strong in the country, any form of democracy is not acceptable to the anti-democracy forces who fear that if democracy continued for five more years, then the democratic system might get a strong foothold in Pakistan. (Kawish)
4. Jang editorially criticised the murder of MQM activist in custody. Although the ISPR has announced the setting up of an investigation committee, the investigation should be done by the judiciary and not by Rangers themselves. (Jang Edit)
5. Democracy, in whatever little time it has been in the country, has not been able to do any good in the country. The reasons for such a deplorable situation are the inherent flaws like corruption in the system. Corruption has been a regular occurrence during the tenure of every government. The current Panama leaks issue should be probed without much delay. The terms of reference for the probe should be finalised through consensus by the government and the opposition to avoid confusion and controversies. (Kawish Edit, Daily Pak Edit, Nawa-i-Waqt Edit, Jang Edit)
